A smooth transition to winter?

I had an amazing season and was fortunate enough to be able to travel all around BC to shoot some of the best up and coming kids. Even though the weather was never on my side I was still able to pull together enough good shots to put this together and I thank everyone who has helped me to get to where I am today. Royce Sihlis was also by my side for part of the year to capture 2 sides of the story from the photo perspective and my video perspective. Enjoy!

Here is Royce's view...

this is refreshing. not a video about "oh no the end of the season, i cant ride until summer now" crap. if you really are dedicated to the sport, you will ride all year long

I used to live in the dirty south (Texas) and I loved riding year round....but there aren't really any mountains in Texas. Now I live in Utah.....in the mountains. It doens't get any better than walking out your door and hitting a big DH trail. I'll give up the southern rideable winters (for snowboarding!) for 8000' trails any time.

i am 68 and ride all through the winter DHing - last year my son [ who lives on the coast - organic farmer / rider ] and i did Mach Chicken and a bunch of other stuff up the B & K logging road on Christmas day; still ride pretty hard and enough stunts, so i thought i was pretty hardcore and when i returned to Vancouver decided to ride Fromme New Years day : ok, so there i was standing at Floppy Bunny trying to decide if the snow was too hard packed and slippery to do the rollover/drop at the start - turned around and two guys pulled up, mid 40s roughly, one guy had a bike with no right side to his handlebars, the other guy had a full handle bar but NO right arm, no prosthetic, NADA ! one of them asked me if i was going to go - i mumbled something and moved aside as i watched them both drop over easy as peeling a banana ! and on their merry way...yep. 'hardcore pussy' me as i followed their inspiring mind boggling lead - gotta say for those of you who know this trail, yeh, not too big a deal, but i challenge anyone to consider trying it with one hand, in the best of conditions! so, apparently the guys handle is 'one armed willie and he inspired me to keep on keepin on ,snow or no !

I used to wish that I could ride all year. Then I moved back to Australia for a number of years and after a few years I was kinda over riding and wondered if that was it; was I done for good? So I stopped riding for a few months and then I was back, more stoked than I had been for years. Ever since then I always took some time off the bike for at least a month or two. Now I'm back in Canada and sometimes I'm forced to have a break, but even if I'm not I'll take time off and focus on skiing instead. I never question anymore if I might be over biking if I'm feeling a little done with it for the year. I know I just need a recharge and I'll be back more stoked than ever in a few months. I'm using some of my down time this year to build a trail so I know the stoke will be high.

I couldnt agree with you more. I ride mostly park, and during the winter we have an indoor park around here. Ever since it opened I find that I burn out early in the season (about 1 or 2 months ago). By burn out i mean that my riding kinda goes to shit. Im not motivated, not confident etc. Its just a break. As soon as im back in it, I ride harder, and enjoy it a lot more. Despite taking that 2 or 3 month break i dont see any loss of progression. Im just recharged, and yearning it.

I used to be a ski instructor at what may be the smallest ski resort in America... And it had the oldest ski instructor in the world. I think he turned 91 and was still on the slope. The flat slope. it still had snow on it.. His name was Leland Osborn. He taught my Father to ski and that was in the 1930's. I took a lesson from him as well, when he was in his 80's and I was in my teens. He has been gone for awhile now.. But not forgotten.

I can really relate to the All mountain concept of biking and skiing...

These are machines... I am human.. I need humans at times.... Then, its back to the machines... And what nice machines they are...

That's why I moved out to Colorado,I can ski one day and ride the next. It doesn't get much better than that! Although, I have thought about trying to ski, then come back to town to ride the same day...

Nice inspirational stuff for the gentle transition to cool white fun. Impressive effort.

Or, you could live in Vancouver Island and do both during "winter".
